Some winners to announce this week:
Dennis and Sandra McGinn won the Gregory Rosebowl finishing 5 shots clear of their nearest rivals.Unfortunately for him, that’s where Dennis’ weekend of glory stopped as Matthew Robinson beat him in the Boyd final. He does, however, still have the chance to win the Club Championship when he plays Richard Herries in September.
As far as gents competitions are concerned we have the September medal (12th September) and October Medal (26th September). I’d be keen to gauge interest in playing the Evans on 19th September. Please PM me (Malcolm) or the Golf Club Facebook page if you’d like to enter a one-off Evans. A decision will be made about that.
Finally, there may be the opportunity to organize a couple of 9 hole Green keeper’s challenges on a Wednesday evening if there were any interest. Let me or Matthew know if that would be something you’d play in.
The Captain’s Outing was held at Wigtown and Bladnoch today. Captain Neil Cluckie made sure the golfers were well looked after with a bar on the 4th, 6th, 13th and 15th tees. Winner was Dennis McGinn with 39 points winning on the better inward half from John Smith. The rest enjoyed the bar a little too much . Well done Dennis
The Ladies also had their Outing at Wigtown & Bladnoch on the same day! The winner of the Macie Welsh Trophy was Sharon Milven with 37 points. Runner Up was Debbie Gunby with 32 points.
Congratulations to our fantastic winners in the August 50/50 draw:
1st James Dick (222)
2nd Brian Rice (226)
3rd Tom Jolly (299)
Thanks to everyone for supporting our 50/50 Club.
The McGowan Twoball was played for today in a one-off format rather than its usual knockout format. Winners were the first team in the clubhouse: Robin McHarg and Steven Kingston. Well done gents! The final Wednesday night 18 hole competition will be the rearranged Drysdale Cup on Wednesday 19th August. Following that will be the Captain’s Outing being held at Wigtown and Bladnoch from 1pm next Saturday 22nd August.

Today saw the first “socially distanced” past captains’ salver in the club’s 60 year history. It was a golf only event on a lovely summers day. The event was won and retained by last year’s winner Matthew Robinson with an impressive net 66. Well done Matthew
We have taken the decision to cancel tomorrow’s Drysdale Cup due to the poor weather we’ve had today. We will announce a rearranged date in the coming weeks. At this stage the Gregory Rosebowl Mixed Greensomes will still go ahead on Thursday evening. Couples names to Malcolm by Wednesday evening please. We also have one spare lady looking for a gent.
PS the Gregory Rosebowl has now been postponed due to the weather.
On a beautiful summery Sunday, 20 gents played for the Captain’s Tankard. The youth of Adam MacDonald triumphed over the experience of Dennis McGinn and Kevin Nicholson. At the same time, Deryck Cluckie showed that practice makes perfect as he achieved his first hole in one at the 5th hole. (Another reason to attend the Captain’s Outing on 22nd as he has promised to add a bottle to the event ).Next up is the August Medal on Wednesday and then the McGowan Two ball on Sunday.
